Passion Flower
Passion flower is an exotic climber native to the Southeastern parts of the United States. It is a lovely vine that produces delicious fruit and an abundance of beautiful white and purple flowers with a little crown in the center. It is sometimes called the mystical flower due to its symbolic association with the crucifixtion when the Spanish first discovered it in America. Native Indians used the leaves to help heal bruises and other injuries. Today passion flower is used medicinally as the main ingredient of many sedatives.
Passion flower has an ancient medical ingredient known for psychic sedative, antispasmodic and nervine uses. It is known to help rid headaches, insomnia, nervous disorders and hysteria. It is known to help calm occupational strain and severe mental stress, anxiety and pressure caused by modern living.
It is known to reduce the activity on the motor side of the spinal chord. The motor neurons carry signals from the central nervous system to the outer parts (muscles, skin, glands) of your body. So passionflower helps relax the body and enhance respiration (the action of breathing). It has been known to be helpful in cases of epilepsy, diarrhea, neauralgia (nerve pain), sleeplessness and menstrual cramps.
